The story is old wine in new bottle. It almost resembles Kempegowda where police officer Kempegowda takes revenge on Armuga, a rowdy, but in Shathru our hero Vijay Surya takes revenge on Adishesha, again an influential person in a city, who will be running a parallel government with his henchmen.

The Prem Kumar-starrer Shathru credits Melwin with the original story but strongly brings to mind Ananth Nag’s splendid turn as the cop in teacher’s disguise in the 1984 film Ramapurada Ravana. The tricks employed by the hero there were sound, making sense even to morons.
