Critic Reviews Aranmanai 2

  • Behindwoods | Review By -BW Review Board Rating-4/10
Despite the classical stereotypes like, Amman dance, Namboodhiri poojai, frequently levitated victims and crazy stranger with an eye for ghosts, Aranmanai 2 still manages to engage. However a major drawback in the movie is that most of the characters and their looks have been retained. However, a few minor changes have been made in their character sketches. While these characters remind heavily of the prequel, the trivial changes to their characterizations

  • Times Of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-5/10
Despite toeing so closely to the original's formula and being equally unpretentious, Aranmanai-2 feels underwhelming. The comedy is less funny (Soori takes over from Santhanam here) and the horror scenes not even remotely scary (though, the visual effects continue to be tacky). The cast and the director seem to be coasting along with a 'people will see this movie no matter what' attitude, and it is this blatant acknowledgment of the film being just a cash grab that is most disappointing.

  • DNA | Review By -Latha Srinivasan Rating-6/10
Director Sundar C is well-versed in handling multi-starrers now and Aranmanai 2 shows how easily he can pull them off. All the characters have a specific role and, even if present in just a few scenes, are linked to the movie and made meaningful. Siddharth has pulled off the role of Murali with ease. This is perhaps one character that will have been a cakewalk for him, considering the kind of films he has done before. This is, however, the first time we are seeing Trisha in a horror flick.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Anupama Subramanian Rating-5/10
Right from the first scene Sundar C does what he is best at packaging the film with unlimited glamour, eerie moments, farce humor and colorful settings with innumerous characters. He is unpretentious about his approach that, don’t watch it critically, you are in for a little over 2 hours of fulfilled entertainment. The film works largely due to this tactic of Sundar despite the horror genre has a predictable plot with tacky visual effects and there are restricted spooky elements.

  • Rediff | Review By -S Saraswathi Rating-4/10
There is never a dull moment in director Sundar C’s Aranmanai 2 with its loud blaring music, the lavishly picturized songs and the non-stop mindless comedy.  But neither the script, nor its characters or its actors have much to offer in this horror comedy that is totally devoid of any scary moments. The VFX is rather ordinary and the film is loaded with annoying horror clich├ęs like freaky shadows, creepy sounds, the flickering lights, doors

  • Filmi Beat | Review By -Avinash Gopinath Rating-4/10
Aranmanai 2 is technically poor. Barring the second half, which is a touch pacier, everything else looks below par in the technical department. Be it the outdated visual effects (VFX) or the formulaic flashback portion, everything about Aranmanai 2 looks bygone and tiring. Apart from a few songs, 'Hip Hop Tamizha' Aadhi's music comes across as a shocker. His background score though elevates certain scenes, despite being a touch too loud at places.

  • 123 Telugu | Review By -123 Telugu Team Rating-6/10
The makers of Kalavathi have stayed true to the genre and did not experiment. They have played it safe and added enough elements which will go well with everyone. The film lacks novelty and also does not have any spine chilling moments. However, a decent second half filled with enough mas elements makes things work. Finally, if you manage to sit through the very ordinary first half, you can easily enjoy this decent suspense thriller.

  • Indiaglitz | Review By -Indiaglitz Rating-6/10
Aranamanai2 isn't a genius of a story, it dwells mainly on some slapstick humor, the performances of Hansika, Trisha, Kovai Sarala and Soori, and some real good camera & art work behind the scenes. The giant 103 foot statue of the Goddess and the means of capturing it to detail deserve special mention to the technical team, Aranmanai was lauded for its comic content, criticized for its horror moments, the second part has even lesser scary moments and there is hardly a fright
