Critic Reviews- (Ratings out of 10)

  •  Times Of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-6
What is refreshing about Kathakali is that it is less an action film and more a mystery. Pandiraj keeps us guessing as to who the murderer might be, even as he increases the tension by putting Amudhavel into situations from where getting away seems tricky. During the middle section of the film, Amudhavel is trapped inside a bus with no way out of his predicament.

  •  Filmi Beat | Review By -Avinash Gopinath Rating-6
Director Pandiraj sure knows how to fabricate a thriller. The director, known for presenting high quality children films, will be signed in to helm more action-thrillers, post Kathakali. While the first half takes its time to settle, the interval block makes you sit right up, making way for

  •  Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Anupama Subramanian Rating-6
If there ever was an award category that is along the lines of ‘stylish & good looking but lacking in the ideas department,’ then Kathakali is a film that is sure to bag one of those. Directed by Pandiaraj and starring Vishal and Catherine, the movie moves at a brisk pace, is visually pleasing, and is slightly stereotypical in the storyline and character development.

  •  Rediff | Review By -S Saraswathi Rating-5
The film revolves entirely around Vishal and the actor gives a decent performance. Even with all the chaos around him, there is not much theatrics. For most part, he remains a confused and helpless guy, who finds himself in an impossible situation. The camera angles of cinematographer

  •  Behindwoods | Review By -BW Review Board Rating-5
Vishal as usual appears in a homespun character highly bound to his family and emotions. Slight shades of his character from his previous flicks like Pandianadu and Paayum Puli might trouble the audience while they try to empathise or sympathise with his character.

  •  DNA | Review By -Latha Srinivasan Rating-6
The first half of the film is much slower than the second half. All the comedy and romance is packaged in the first half and the action and twists and turns in the second. It is post the interval that the movie really picks up. Catherine Tresa as Meenukutty doesn't have too much scope

  •  Indiaglitz | Rating-6
Sreejith Ravi as the cynical police officer looks tailor made for the role; he comes in the second half and does his job well. Another biggest plus of the movie is the runtime of 2 hours, crisp editing and neat screenplay has done it for Kathakali.
