Critic Reviews Ishtakamya

  • Bangalore Mirror | Review By -Shyam Prasad S Rating-6/10
Ishtakamya stays true to Nagathihalli Chandrashekar. Or the director has stayed true to his kind of film making. The film takes its own time to settle down. Then there is a twist at the break and a completely different story after that. And again, at the very end, Nagathihalli tries to choose between carving out a bold ending or falling into the commercial trap. He chooses the latter.

Characters in Chandrashekhar’s film fall in and out of love rather easily and far too quickly. It becomes clear that in the filmmaker’s eyes this is how modern-day relationships are. But instead of making generalisations about an entire generation, Ishtakamya would have worked better if it stuck to telling a story about particular characters. In any case, does the story make for an interesting watch, at least?

  • Cine Sinchana | Review By -Raju Shanbhag Rating-4/10
Almost all the actors are made to overact or mouth melodramatic dialogues at the drop of a hat. Even Prakash Belawadi, my favorite among current Kannada artists, looks out of sort at places. The sceneries are nice, but they can’t make up for the lack of content. Ajaneesh Loknath’s songs are the only saving grace of the film. Pass.

  • Times Of India | Review By -Sunayana Suresh Rating-6/10
It could have been made racier, and at times the filming style seems a tad older for this generation that relies of everything delivered over a click on their smartphones. The climax, especially, lasts longer than it should have. That said, Ishtakamya is a decent watch for the family audiences, who want to be entertained in the old-fashioned way. This film has Nagathihalli Chandrashekar's own poetic touch and will definitely not disappoint his die-hard fans.

Watch this film, if you are a fan of Nagathihalli films, or if you are finding it hard to save your marriage, or have anything related with marriage and relationships. Soothing sound tracks is one definite bonus. However, this film does have the typical end.

Where does the director’s heart lie? Who emerges the eventual victor – Aditi or Achari? Where does it leave Akarsh, who wonders whether it is love or marriage that works better, is what Chandrashekhar takes audiences through. While visually Ishtakamya is poetry with cinematographer Ravikumar Sana capturing the verdant and hilly Malnad region’s resplendant lush locales, the film’s songs are a bit let down.
