Critic Reviews Gentleman

  • The Hindu | Review By -Sangeetha Devi Dundoo Rating-7/10
Watch Gentleman; it’s not often that a filmmaker trusts the intelligence of his audience. Little things matter, like not translating every small Tamil sentence spoken in Kodaikanal. He knows his viewers will understand in context. The Kodai sequence, in a way, is a reminder of Anthaku Mundu Aa Tarvatha where his lead characters opt for a live-in before getting married. Only, this is more mainstream.

Since, this is a thriller, there has to be a point where all the facts tumble out of the closet. Before the film reaches that point, I could feel what was going on. I just couldn’t put the reason on a piece of paper. Hence, “Why is this happening?” is a bigger question than, “What’s happening?” Had Indraganti tightened the noose a bit more, there would have been more tense moments in the film.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Suresh Kavirayani Rating-7/10
Among the drawbacks is the romantic thread between Surabhi and Nani, which is too long. Avasarala Srinivasa Rao is a good actor, but he is a miscast in the negative character. The climax is predictable and a bit long. But all in all, Gentleman is a great watch for Nani's stellar performance.

  • AP Herald | Review By -Common Man Rating-5/10
The movie starts off well and has a 'bang' in Intermission. But the second half falls flat and every mystery which is revealed becomes highly predictable. Lots of cliches in second half spoil the party. Music was soothing and it raises tempo when needed. Cinematography was flawless. Had the director worked on the screenplay portion in second half, the movie would have been a lively product.

  • Now Running | Review By -NR Review Rating-4/10
Gentleman is a decent effort with too much of class touch. The second half goes slow but the director saved it with good twists here and there. There are no commercial elements in the second half which gives us an 'average' feel at the end. You can try it this weekend.

One of the major drawbacks of the film is the excessive run time. Thrillers like these should be quite crisp and major scenes in the first half could be edited even now to make things better. On the whole, Gentleman is one of Nani’s best performances till date. Time and again, he is u.

  • Chitramala | Review By -Vikram Guru Rating-6/10
Screenplay is written so clever and interesting but seems to be slow. Director Mohana Krishna Indraganti should be appreciated for attempting such a script with a terrific actor like Nani. To sumup, Gentleman is another step to reach higher level in Nani’s career.
