Critic Reviews Junooniyat

  • Filmi Beat | Review By -Swikriti Srivastava Rating-3/10
As far as the direction of the film is concerned, it's below average. Only the music, which are little ear-wormy, a few light-hearted romantic scenes, a few romantic dialogues and the locales which are breathtaking, make the patches of this movie bearable. If you are a die-hard fan of Pulkit Samrat or Yami Gautam, then this movie is surely for you! Otherwise, save your money and time from this 'too intense' love-story, which you won't be able to digest!

Junooniyat is targeted towards college-going people who are always game for wasting their money on such films rather than attending lectures. It’s hard to believe they are able to tolerate such films and make them successful. Junooniyat is an outright boring film. I am going with 1.5 stars.

  • NDTV | Review By -Saibal Chatterjee Rating-3/10
The title of this film, the makers remind us helpfully, means obsession. But the only obsession that Junooniyat demonstrates is with giving romance a bad name. The film tells the same old pappy, pulpy story of a pair of young lovers up against sundry pyaar ke dushman. Absolutely, all cinema has scenes and images. But not all scenes and images are not cinema. Pretty frames do not a film make.

The only thing backing this film is their chemistry, which too, is not strong enough to cash on. To the film’s credit, the picturesque Himalayan locales have been explored beautifully. Yami’s on-screen persona works well for this one. Go for this film only if you’re a die-hard fan of either Pulkit or Yami; or else give this one a miss.

  • Rediff | Review By -Namrata Thakker Rating-2/10
The first half of the film is still tolerable, courtesy the exotic locations but the second half is just too much to handle with all the drama and sappy sequences. The music isn't bad. All in all, Junooniyat is just not worth your time and money.

  • Times Of India | Review By -Meena Iyer Rating-5/10
In all fairness, Pulkit and Yami breathe life into their characters. We wish they were not saddled with such a lacklustre script. The only thing you take back from this film are the breath-taking visuals of the snow-capped Kashmir mountains captured in their entirety. For the rest, this one draws a huge blank.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Rohit Vats Rating-3/10
The tempo stalls and by the time momentum picks up, it’s time for another song. The sense of urgency fizzles out when it’s needed the most. And the comic breathers jump out of the narrative, making the whole plot appear patchy, incoherent and unromantic. Some melodious tunes may entice you, but that’s not enough to keep you hooked for the two-hours and odd saga.

  • Mid Day | Review By -Shaheen Parkar Rating-3/10
Writer-director Vivek Agnihotri seems to have put in a lot of efforts to come up with good production values — there are some picturesque locations and detailing of the regions where the film has been shot, including the costume department, seem bang on. But the bright and colourful phulkari dupattas of Punjab sadly cannot stop the film from being lacklustre.
