Critic Reviews TE3N Movie

  • Times Of India | Review By -Meena Iyer Rating-7/10
As the jigsaw puzzle falls into place, the protagonists' feelings towards the situation and themselves falls perfectly into place, keeping the viewers pleasantly engaged with the plot and the people. The film's ability to maintain the suspense right till the end makes it a must-watch for those who like whodunnits. However, a better pace could have lifted this film a notch higher.

  • News 18 | Review By -Rajeev Masand Rating-6/10
Even if you do end up predicting the climax, it’s an engaging journey following all the clues and dodging the red herrings. Dasgupta’s efficient direction and an inherently riveting plot ensure that you’re consistently invested in the outcome of the investigation. I’m going with three out of five for TE3N. Had they put a little more pace into it, this thriller would fly.

  • Koimoi | Review By -Surabhi Redkar Rating-5/10
Te3n turns out to be a disappointing thriller as it starts to give away the suspense quite early on. If you want to catch a film that can make you scratch your brain then this is not your pick. It is an average thriller, still a better choice than many senseless Bollywood films. Te3n is a thriller that fails to keep you engaged to the last bit thanks to its predictability. I am going with a 2.5/5 for the film.

  • NDTV | Review By -Saibal Chatterjee Rating-6/10
Te3n is by no means a visceral thrill-a-minute crime drama, but its red herrings are sufficiently intriguing. They keep the viewer second-guessing its twists and turns. Te3n is studded with stellar performances. Amitabh Bachchan, who eschews much of his mannerisms, inhabits the character of the ageing man fighting against all odds to redeem himself – in his own eyes.

  • Bollywood Hungama | Review By -BH Network Rating-5/10
While the promos of the film were enticing and thrilling, the sad part is that the same cannot be said about the film in totality. Right from the first scene, the film's oscillation between the past and the present leaves the viewers a bit confused. TE3N, despite being a whodunit thriller, suffers extremely because of its slow pace and weak screenplay. At the box-office it will be unable to connect with its target audience.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Rohit Vats Rating-7/10
The director weaves a web of lies and psychological disorders, but he also attaches motives to his characters. Though his choice of background music surprises at times, he compensates with pace. His biggest success is the high degree of audience involvement in a 138-minute film.

  • India Today | Review By -Ananya Bhattacharya Rating-6/10
At 2 hours 16 minutes, the film seems to stretch on till eternity. TE3N suffers from sloppy editing, but more than compensates for it in the cinematography. Through Tushar Kanti Ray's lens, Kolkata is a city struggling to stay standing. TE3N, however, is no Kahaani. It is at best a hotchpotch of a film that could have been so much better. Watch it though. For the brilliant acting.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Mehul S Thakker Rating-8/10
Vidya Balan plays a cop (Sarita Sarkar) and Nawazuddin steps into the role Father Martin Das in the film which sees both of them in a very crisp and powerful role. The two flawlessly pull off the challenging parts in the film. Watch it for the raw display of human drama and the realistic approach to many situations which has been missing at the movies for sometime now.

  • Mid Day | Review By -Shubha Shetty Saha Rating-7/10
Nawazuddin as a guilt ridden man trying in vain to find solace in religion, is brilliant. Vidya Balan as expected is competent but her character is not fleshed out well. At times it looked like she's in a hurry to wrap up the case and the film. Even though this film is a remake of a Korean film, 'Montage', full marks to Ribhu Dasgupta for giving it a strong local flavour, with familiar and comfortable sights and sounds.

  • Rediff | Review By -Raja Sen Rating-4/10
Overall, like the Calcutta police station that features a library of audio cassettes full of ransom demands -- a shelf of kidnapper mixtapes, if you will -- TE3N feels like it was put together by people who didn't know where things should go. Amitabh Bachchan is excellent, no question. Ah, if only his mystery involved an elusive bottle of Isabgol.

  • Indian Express | Review By -Shubhra Gupta Rating-3/10
TE3N is a case of sadly missed opportunities. Because there are rousing actors in here, and there’s a real city to play it all out in. And while the identity of the culprit does come as a surprise if you haven’t been attentive to some amount of obviousness in the unravelling, the suspense is not as killing as it can be, which for a whodunit like this, is the real crime.

  • Bollywood Life | Review By -Tushar Joshi Rating-4/10
TE3N’s biggest cuplrit is its pace. It’s slow and tests your patience to the limit. You don’t mind sitting through a film that is gradually building up to something worth anticipating. Also the promos promised us a taut thriller, so what is this watered down family drama mumbo jumbo we are reduced to suffering?

  • Gulf News | Review By -Manjusha Radhakrishnan Rating-6/10
What pulls the thriller down is its unhurried pace and the scarcity of startling twists. Director Ribhu Dasgupta doesn’t hurry things up and precious minutes are invested in giving us the premise that led up to the murder. The ending, despite having a stellar cast including Sabyasachi Chakraborty, leaves you wanting for more. But as long as you manage your expectations, you will be satisfied.

  • Masala | Review By -Lokesh Dharmani Rating-5/10
Nawaz and Vidya Balan also stay true to their roles but there is nothing extraordinary about their characters or their acting. The film doesn’t engage you much. I, not even for once, felt the need to investigate the case or make whodunnit guesses or sit on the edge of my seat, which is not a great thing for an emotional thriller Te3n aims to be.
