Critic Reviews Jackson Durai

  • Filmi Beat | Review By -Avinash Gopinath Rating-4/10
After a promising first half, which sets up the story beautifully for an exciting second half, the movie falls apart, 10 minutes into the latter half.Jackson Durai has its moments, but the whole purpose of the movie goes for a toss, thanks to its poor execution.

  • The Hindu | Review By -Sangeetha Devi Dundoo Rating-3/10
If there’s a formula for mass entertainers, there’s another for horror comedies. Creaky doors, a deserted bungalow laden with cobwebs, music that’s supposed to add to the creepy effect, actors with faces painted in shades of black, white or ash, and at least one ghost in flowing white robes. Dora, the Telugu dubbed version of the Tamil film Jackson Durai, befits this stereotype.

  • Behindwoods | Review By -BW Review Rating-4/10
Overall the director seems to have tried his best at giving us an entertaining feature but instead cluelessly heads in a direction which lacks a sense of purpose. He handles a texture that is not definite and weaves a rather loose structure around it. Even a good cast finds it difficult to save this film.

  • Times Of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-4/10
How can someone who displayed so much filmmaking flair in his debut come up with such a lacklustre sophomore effort? The film is a horror comedy, a genre that is very much the trend today, and going by the director's previous film, you expect at least a competently made film that keeps us entertained. But the only thing that we have in store is disappointment.

Dharanidharan’s writing, this time, lets him down. Jackson Durai only sounds like a horror comedy — the plot is more intricate, it wants to do more than just make you laugh, scream. It actually wants to tell some kind of story, a Groundhog Day-like story that keeps looping back on itself, each iteration the opportunity for a change.

  • News 18 | Review By -Karthik Keramalu Rating-5/10
The film takes its time to drop the horror bomb on us. A flashback episode set before the Independence is brought on later. Jackson Durai begins as a comedy and also ends up as a comedy. Just that Dharani Dharan’s horror elements do not find a place in the film. It’s a comedy without any horror.

  • Rediff | Review By -S Saraswathi Rating-5/10
The film starts of well but lags in the second half and the screenplay begins to go downhill. However, there is a certain wackiness to the narrative and the absurd characters that make director Dharanidharan’s Jackson Durai a tolerable watch.

  • Piping Hot Views | Review By -Anand
Despite the visual appeal courtesy of stellar shows from the art, cinematography and costume departments, the lack of a purposeful narrative fails to back them up with the mediocre execution making Jackson Durai a grand mess!

Dora is a poorly executed film. The cross between horror and comedy is improper and this shows up clearly on the big screen. Although a few comic scenes are entertaining, the rest of the film is jumbled up into one big mess and can be ignored this weekend.

  • AP Herald | Review By -Common Man Rating-3/10
Yet another routine Horror comedy, where 'Good Evil' triumphs over 'Bad Evil'. Nothing new in story or screenplay. The only good thing is, few comedy sequences, if not the movie would have been a disaster. Problem is director tried to stuff lots of things within a thin space. Costumes and Ghost make up is pretty good. Satyaraj alone scored in acting and rest of them are immatured.
