Critic Reviews Run Antony

  • Bangalore Mirror | Review By -Shyam Prasad S Rating-5/10
A lead actor who cannot save his life with acting, a plot based on just three incidents and a supposed thriller in which half the shots are in slow motion; these are the three hurdles for this film's good run. Whatever great expectations the posters and trailer of the film had generated goes for a toss even before the 'run' takes off post interval.

The debut director’s running escapades in ‘slow’ motion, which was supposed to be an edge-of-the seat experience, turns out to be a constant frustration for over two hours. Extremely excited over a few ideas of unusual twist in a plot, the director has webbed a story which is more or less like an air-filled balloon with a couple of paper balls in it!

  • The Hindu | Review By -Archana Nathan
Run Antony has a creative and glossy countenance and an interesting premise for a thriller. But, in its narration, it meanders, stumbles, fumbles and struggles to keep up. Right in the beginning, we are told that Antony (Vinay Rajkumar) would rather run than confront his fears. He first runs from heart-break and embarrassment and then from life itself when he tries to commit suicide but fails.

This film could have really created a difference in Sandalwood, given it comes from one of the most respected banners. But, it falls short as the filmmaker has fallen prey to the unnecessary trappings of commercial cinema, like badly placed duets and some exaggerated heroism, that take away the essence of the film being a thriller.

If anything, debutant director Raghu Shastry’s Run Antony is a beautiful lesson on how to ruin a good plot. Run Antony has a nice plot, but it loses its way in the midst of needless songs and fights, a strict no-no for a film that was promoted as a thriller.

Brimming with social messages, specifically aimed at today’s youth who are easily swayed by circumstances — be it love or taking to terrorism — Run Antony, is a neatly packaged film in two parts with events that happen in the course of three days.
