Critic Reviews Pretham

  • Times of India | Review By -Sanjith Sidhardhan Rating-7/10
The horror-comedy gets extra points for serving up a smart plot, which seems predictable by the end of first half. But the director turns it on its head by bringing in a relevant tale that makes it easy for the skeptics of the genre to stomach it as well. The ending though, is a bit stretched, as the filmmaker indulges too much in showing off the aspects of mentalism.

  • Manorama | Review By -G Ragesh Rating-6/10
Pretham is a perfect mix of humor and horror, though the former outdoes the latter often. When it comes to the horror side, director-writer Ranjith Sankar makes it mild, perhaps to suit the interest of the common audience, mainly families, who form most of his audience. The horror sequences are not so scary but have the power to keep the flow of the script and the viewer engaged.

  • Filmibeat | Review By -Akhila Menon Rating-6/10
Writer-director Ranjith Sankar has succeeded in making the movie, especially the first half, a totally entertaining experience with some great comical elements and a touch of mystery. The dialogues are well-written. Pretham is one of the most unique horror flicks made in Mollywood. A perfect entertainer for the season, despite minimal flaws.

Renjith Shankar’s movie Pretham, supposedly a horror comedy, keeps you waiting for a twist which never comes. What you get instead is a pretty ordinary climax, which is neither memorable nor scary. The only think that rescues Pretham is Jayasurya’s performance and some quality camera work.

Jithu Damodar's cinematography captures the scenic beauty of the luxurious resort and has a good vibe. The background track of Pretham has been handled aptly thus making it different from a normal horror flick. Well executed twists and turns mixed with proper answers could have resulted in an exceptional movie. Pretham is a hilarious horror comedy that lacks substance
