Critic Reviews Baar Baar Dekho

  • News 18 | Review By -Rajeev Masand Rating-3/10
For a film about romance and love, Baar Baar Dekho is curiously lacking the messiness of real relationships, and trades in quick-fix solutions to complex personal issues. At 2 hours and 21 minutes it's way too long, and never once succeeded in making me care if Jai and Diya would end up happily ever after. I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five. Baar Baar Dekho? No thanks, ek baar kaafi tha!

  • Times of India | Review By -Renuka Vyavahare Rating-7/10
There are timeless love stories and then stories involving time travel. BBD belongs to the latter. Pleasant and fairly engaging but a tad tedious (like mathematics) to evoke a Baar Baar viewing. The foot-tapping kala chashma song in the end infuses that much required energy and zest into the film.

  • Rediff | Review By -Raja Sen Rating-2/10
Nothing in this movie adds up, but the gist is that Jai -- annoyingly tentative and indecisive about marriage, in-laws and the woman in his life -- keeps getting jolted ahead into the future where things change and he remains the same stupid self, struggling to catch up.

  • Film Companion | Review By -Anupama Chopra Rating-4/10
Baar Baar Dekho is impeccably good-looking.  Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran gives every surface a sheen.  The locations are lovely and so are the outfits. But none of it is enough to sustain you through the length of this desperately flawed film.   I’m going with two stars but keeping my faith in Nitya.

Definitely not a case of Baar Baar Dekho! This film has its share of flaws but only if you’re a fan of love stories, you will be able to look above them. Baar Baar Dekho is an ‘Ek Baar Dekho’ affair. A fresh pairing of good looking actors, good music and a commercial love story is the mainstay. I’ll go with a 2.5/5 for this romantic drama.

The film keeps you guessing, to the point that you don't really care. The screenplay doesn't have any room for anything except this feast of beauty; from the background to the people in front of the camera. The film leaves you un-understandably restless; you want to leave the theatre, but the promise of Kala Chashma at the end of the film keeps you waiting.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Rohit Vats Rating-5/10
Confused writing adds up to the film’s woes. It takes them really long to utter that ‘no equation is perfect without balance’. Baar Baar Dekho is hardly even a bird’s eye view of the new generation’s choices and desires. Its philosophy lacks strength and gloss takes the centre stage right from the beginning.

I tried hard to connect and give into the narrative but the lack of logic and shoddy editing that gave the film a hurried and rushed feel failed to let me jump onto this time travel experience. Baar Baar Dekho is an unique concept that fails to keep you interested because of its weak execution. This is a time travel journey you might want to fast forward!

  • DNA | Review By -Sarita Tanwar Rating-4/10
The problem with Baar Baar Dekho is that the story is frustrating and inane. What causes the time travel? Is it the thread? The pandit? Is it all a dream? You will be left grappling with these questions till half the film is over. It's an undercooked time travel tale. Ek baar dekhna is tough enough.

  • Bollywood Hungama | Review By -BH Review Rating-4/10
The film's cinematography (Ravi K. Chandran) is excellent. The way in which he has shot the locations are extremely top-notch. The film's editing (Amitabh Shukla) is average. On the whole, BAAR BAAR DEKHO is a confused film which underestimates audience's intelligence and takes them for granted.

Correct me if I am wrong, but sometimes it helps to have two divine-looking people in a frame. They look fetching together and it sometimes glosses over some glaring over-the-top twists. This is no baar baar dekho, which means to watch again and again. Reserve this for a one-time watch.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Mehul S Thakkar Rating-6/10
Editor Amitabh Shukla has cropped the film beautifully and makes the different timelines appear seamless and in flow. There is also freshness in the dialogues and also has enough room for comic relief, and the credit for that goes to Anvita Dutt. In the end, this time travel film certainly deserves a hit on the play button.

  • Indian Express | Review By -Shubhra Gupta Rating-3/10
What the film needed was to borrow some of the high voltage energy of the madly addictive Kala Chashma ditty, which has turned into the season’s club song du jour. Baar baar dekho? Wishful thinking. Once is way more than enough.
