Critic Reviews Freaky Ali

  • Times of India | Review By -Meena Iyer Rating-7/10
Director Sohail Khan, who shares writing credits too, takes a lot of cinematic liberties. Even in a Utopian state, it is hard to digest street children running amuck golf greens. Or having goondas, double up as caddies. Like they say, this happens only in our desi cinema.

  • India Today | Review By -Devarsi Ghosh Rating-4/10
That was probably how the film was pitched in the boardroom of Sohail Khan ProductionZ. Too bad, as is always with any film from the bhai stable, the film's makers did not give two hoots about the film's script, which is why Freaky Ali ended up being two hours of zzzZZZzzzz...

As for the performance, Siddiqui proves once again that he is the star when it comes to acting.Despite the cliches and melodrama, we found Freaky Ali worth the time and money. From the ‘talented actor’ for the intelligentsia to the common man’s entertainer, Siddiqui is one star we love.

  • Rediff | Review By -Sukanya Verma Rating-4/10
It’s entirely on the writers and actors to make the proceedings seem crucial or comic. What shows up on screen is plain lazy on their part and it's painfully dull to watch. Despite Nawaz, Freaky Ali fails to impress!

Freaky Ali disappoints badly. If you’re looking for laughs, this will give you a few of them but that’s it. A poor second half will bore you! Freaky Ali misses to be an ace (golf lingo). In the garb of comedy, this is a boring dramedy. A 2/5 for this one!

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Deepanjana Pal Rating-4/10
Freaky Ali isn’t a satisfying film by a long shot, and that’s a terrible shame, given that the plot is good. Still, it elicits a few laughs and its heart is in the right place. Thank God for that at least.

  • DNA | Review By -Sarita Tanwar Rating-5/10
The humor is what makes the first half of the film fairly engrossing. The second half, which mainly focuses on Ali’s journey towards winning the championship, is what makes the film dull. Freaky Ali has flashes of fun but could’ve been far funnier. Watch it for Nawaz’s endearing performance.

  • News 18 | Review By -Sameeksha Dandriyal Rating-4/10
The film is a forgettable mess. It feels bad to see a talent like Nawazauddin wasted by a superficial story and poor execution. The baseline was innovative and could’ve worked wonders if Sohail would’ve played safe and stuck to just making an inspirational story. The film is like a sixer on a golf field, irrelevant and unnecessary. Even Siddiqui’s brave act can’t save this one.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Rohit Bhatnagar Rating-5/10
Even though Nawaz performs well in 'Freaky Ali', the film is surely not worth the ticket price. Since Baar Baar Dekho also released this Friday, pick this only if you are an ardent Nawazuddin Siddiqui fan. The film holds no promise of entertaining you throughout.

  • Bollywood Hungama | Review By -BH Review Rating-4/10
The music of the film hardly has anything to boast about and the editing is strictly average. The cinematography is decent. On the whole, FREAKY ALI kick starts with rib-tickling moments but fails to retain the humorous momentum throughout as it falls prey to predictable plotline and a disappointing second half.

  • Bollywood Life | Review By -Sreeju Sudhakaran Rating-5/10
While we all love Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a performer, it’s high time that he chooses his projects more carefully, since this is the third film of his this year, after Te3N and Raman Raghav 2.0, that has let us down. Freaky Ali has a few moments of comic mirth that will make you crack a smile, but the film, overall, sputters and drags all the way to the final hole.

It’s also nice to see him in a light-hearted role : except perhaps for his blundering TV reporter in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, he has been condemned to dark, twisted parts in dark, twisted flicks. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is capable of carrying a film on his own shoulders but the film drowns in its own silliness.

  • Gulf News | Review By -Manjari Saxena Rating-4/10
But the film’s predictability and looseness of plot, which Khan tried to cover up under the garb of a (not-so-funny) comedy is quite tangible. It’s really not worth paying money to watch Freaky Ali in the theatre. Wait for the world television premiere. And then too, watch only if you are a big fan of Siddiqui’s.
