Critic Reviews Kutrame Thandanai

  • Times of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-7/10
For a film that deals with crime(s) and its subsequent punishment(s), Kutrame Thandanai, refreshingly never gets heavy-handed. "Edhu thevaiyo adhu dhaan dharmam" says Nasser's character to Ravi midway into the film, and that is as close to sermonising this film comes.

Vidharth suffers from tunnel vision in the film and the scenes from his perspective are shot without the peripheral environment, retaining only the central vision which gives a distinct character to the film. Despite the ordinary performances, the gripping plot, engaging screenplay and care to technical details make director Manikandan’s Kutrame Thandanai an interesting watch.

And yet. I can’t put my finger on it, but the magic of Kaaka Muttai is missing. It’s probably unfair to compare the films, as they’re so different and a shades-of-grey protagonist is certainly tougher to warm up to than two adorably twinkly-eyed children – but things don’t come together as organically here.

Overall, although Kuttrame Thandanai might not make you fervently hold on to your seat with anticipation as to what will happen next, it is definitely a technically strong movie that boasts a handful of ups. Kuttramae Thandanai is a technically sound thriller film.

  • Piping Hot Views | Review By -Sivaram
Manikandan plays as comfortably in the thriller turf as he did on the endearing comedy turf with his Kaaka Muttai kids but if the more pertinent subtle layers were socio-economical in nature in his first outing, they are on psyche of characters this time – a ‘great to have’ for any twisty thriller.

  • Cinema Glitz | Review By -Sajid Rating-6/10
Manikandan does it again with a different genre, which he handled with finesse and presented an honest thriller with no commercial compromises.  It may not be impressive but does the job with no qualms. Definitely worth a watch.

Kutrame Thandanai is a crime thriller directed by M Manikandan, starring Pooja Devariya, Aishwarya Rajesh and Vidharth Subramanian in the lead roles.

Kutrame Thandanai is the story of a mild-mannered collections agent in desperate need of money. He debates whether needs define morality and whether it is fine to co-opt with corruption by staying silent when he discovers the dead body of his young, female neighbour.
