Critic Reviews Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada

  • Times of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-5/10
The first hour of Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (AYM) gives you what you expect in a Gautham Menon film — a breezy romance. And then, this breeze turns into a twister, wreaking havoc on everything in its path — not just the film’s characters and their lives, but the film itself!

  • Indian Express | Review By -Manoj Kumar R Rating-6/10
The action sequences are engaging. However, the climax feels rushed as if the director took it upon himself to right all the wrongs done to the hero and his people in 10 minutes flat. That is something we can afford to overlook for the romance and thrill this film offers for two hours.

  • India Today | Review By -Srivatsan Rating-5/10
AYM runs for two hours and fifteen minutes. It could've been one of those sleek action thrillers had Gautham gone his traditional way. In all, one fine morning, Gautham decided to make a commercial film that catered not only to the multiplex audience, but also to the B and C centers. And in trying to please all, he hasn't been able to do a great job.

Even on the performance platform, both Silambarasan and Mohan are largely unimpressive, the chemistry between them soggy -- which Menon probably tries to pep up with some great visual shots of Kanyakumari and a few AR Rahman compositions.

Director Gautham Menon's Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada may not be what you expect but watch it for the haunting music, the incredible sights along India's spectacular coastline and the earnestness of its lead actors.

  • The Hindu | Review By -Baradwaj Rangan
Here, the characters are barely defined. It’s a running joke that we don’t know AYM’s name, but he needn’t have had one. The screenplay could have just called them Boy and Girl, and the film would have been no different.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Anupama Subramanian Rating-6/10
A good portion of the second half felt a bit hurried. Things began to unfold a bit too quickly, dispelling some of the mystique that surrounded the first half. And the climax is underwhelming. Still, AYM is worth the wait.

AYM is GVM's attempt to give a well-balanced love action drama but it gets commercialized towards pre-climax. Had that also been dealt in GVM style, we might have had an even better product.

  • Piping Hot Views | Review By -Sriram
However in Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada which is a mix of both, when his protagonist is someone who rises up to confront his fears, the movie doesn’t seem to come as a fine blend. To put it simply, the coffee made seems to have a stronger dose of decoction than milk.

Watch this movie for Simbu, the unconventional plot and to know what his name is in the film, because it’s unexpected in some way and sort of adds an element of fun to the movie. Even you don’t like his name, we are sure Simbu will leave you impressed nonetheless.

  • Filmibeat | Review By -Akhila Menon Rating-5/10
AYM turns out to be Gautham Menon's unsuccessful attempt to turn a smoothly flowing love story into an edge-of-the-seat thriller. The first half is quite entertaining with the charming romantic sequences and some beautiful songs. The stretched second half and rushed, vague climax kills the little charm created by the breezy, light-hearted first half.

  • Cinemaglitz | Review By -Sajid Rating-6/10
Gautam Menon once again displayed his love for Khaki wrapped in a love story, which has the pleasant and dark shades split in to equal halves. Don’t compare this film with his previous ones, and go in with no expectations. You’ll end up liking it. The only reason we have rated this 3 stars is because the way GVM narrates.

Don’t miss the surprise of ‘Showkali’ with AR Rahman and STR version. Cinematography and locations are so much enticing and editing by Antony is crispy that keeps everything intact.
