Critic Reviews Saithan

  • Times of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-7/10
Vijay Antony’s new film, Saithan feels like a new-age masala movie. The film unfolds as a mystery thriller, but like the recent Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, it is only in the end that we realise that it is actually a mass hero movie masquerading as something else.

Though it’s hard to see how anyone could have rooted the increasingly preposterous happenings. Red herrings are one thing. A mindless fishing expedition quite another. You want to be surprised. You end up cheated.

  • Rediff | Review By -S Saraswathi Rating-5/10
The film may not be a well-crafted thriller but the emotionally packed plot filled with love, retribution, forgiveness, jealousy and anger keeps the narrative moving at a brisk pace. This, coupled with the haunting music, makes Saithan a decent watch.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Gautaman Bhaskaran Rating-4/10
A brooding Antony and a rather silly Nair do not add much to push Saithan into a bit of breeze. But Charuhasan in a cameo and YG Mahendra as Dinesh’s boss do make some kind of impression in an otherwise dull movie, touted as a psychological thriller. Not much of thrill here, though.

Also, with the lack of any substantial supporting roles, the onus of driving the plot remains entirely on Vijay’s shoulders. Despite the actor’s efforts, the film falters and just refuses to move thanks to a feckless script.

  • India Today | Review By -Srivatsan Rating-4/10
However, the writing becomes narrow and the plot becomes tedious in the latter half. The film has an interesting portion between the lead actors- Vijay Antony and Arundhathi Nair. But it takes a bizarre turn when a subplot about drugs and organ trafficking takes centrestage.

  • Piping Hot Views | Review By -Anand
'Saithan' is another plot-driven thriller from Vijay Antony’s productions which is mostly engaging. If the script had been more focused without delving into multiple unnecessary tracks, it could have been much more!

  • Behindwoods | Review By -BW Review Rating-5/10
The first half looks like a maze that moviegoers will be happy to get lost in, a criminal roller coaster with twists so unsettling with no choices. But a not so exciting flashback and average climax reduces the fun part.
