But what is troubling is that the violence seems to be there just for the sake of it. Both Vikram and Vinoth's characters are underdeveloped. We hardly feel the dilemma that the latter undergoes. And the film, too, never truly addresses the moral question at the heart of its plot — what makes one evil and is there difference between one evil act and another.

54321, is closer in spirit to Funny Games, and like this work, plays on the psyche. Prasad’s film is about five people, four lifestyles, three murders in two hours and one, revenge. Hence, the title. Average performances do not help either to lift 54321 off the ground. A promising plot scarred by a slothful script.

Film is called 54321. Why? Because it’s about 5 people, 4 lifestyles, 3 murders, 2 hours, 1 act of revenge. His filmmaking is equally flashy. A recurring trope is the freeze frame presented as a three-dimensional space, through which the camera “travels” in order to set up the flashbacks.
