Critic Reviews Janatha Garage

  • Times of India | Review By -Pranita Jonnalagedda Rating-6/10
While Janatha Garage might come across as an action drama, at the core, it is a family's story. Of love, togetherness, betrayal and a lot more. This Janatha Garage might give everyone a hand in repairs but they need a wee bit of repair themselves for sure. But that's no reason to miss the film.

The team should have looked closely at the tagline ‘Ichatta anni repairlu cheyyabadunu’ (all repairs will be done here) and ironed out problem areas in the script. At 163 minutes, riding on a predictable story, Janatha Garage gets tiresome. A few scenes involving Mohanlal and NTR, and the episode involving Rajeev Kanakala and GHMC staff are the only moments worth rooting for.

Janatha Garage is not your regular popcorn entertainer which Tollywood churns out every week. It is a character-driven film where the onus is on serious emotions. Though NTR performs brilliantly, Mohan Lal gets a prominent role and this might not go well with NTR’s fans. Finally, if you ignore the predictable story line, you may give this film a shot. But keep your expectations in check.

  • Now Running | Review By -NR Review Rating-5/10
Janatha Garage is an honest story which could have been executed better. The movie has its good moments here and there but the experience as a whole happens to be patchy for fans and common audience. But then, you can try it for some intense performances and emotions.

Koragiri Venkateswara Rao's editing makes the movie a crispy watch, especially in the second half and climax. Even though it is a cliched movie which has nothing new to offer, Janatha Garage is a perfect watch for the audiences who love action-oriented entertainers.and the fans of Mohanlal and Jr NTR.

  • Manorama | Review By -G Ragesh Rating-5/10
Janatha Garage has an interesting first half where Mohanlal's character is given prominence. The sequences, though cliched, are presented in a convincing way and keep the audience waiting for what's next. However, as the film enters the second half, the story evolves in a much expected manner, leaving no room for any twist or suspense.

Despite such brazenness, Janatha Garage manages to rise from the ashes, and that’s what makes this film somewhat likeable. If Mohanlal continues to star in Telugu films, he should gladly do so (along with his voice), and if NTR picks interesting scripts from the mix he keeps getting from filmmakers, he’ll entertain us no doubt.

  • Indian Express | Review By -Goutham VS Rating-4/10
The technical quality of the movie boosts the entertainment element. Cinematography and background music are two relief points that make this movie slightly watchable. Janatha Garage is thus another film made at a huge cost which wastes a monumental actor like Mohanlal and shamelessly exhibits a director’s idea drought.

Devi Sri Prasad and cameraman Tirru have supported Siva beautifully well with their respective departments. Apart from a couple of mistimed jump cuts, Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao’s editing look very seamless. Overall, Janatha Garage is slightly cheesy but nevertheless a satisfying entertainer.

A crisp running time would have done wonders. The movie turned out great, with a few screw-ups which can readily be ignored. Even though there are lots of if's and but's, this won't disappoint you. Don't expect this film to change the history of all films, but expect it to exceed in entertainment.

You won’t be wasting your time if you go for this one, especially if you are a Nandamuri fan. Don’t be surprised if you see fans going crazy and screaming hoarse with this one. For all you know, you might be the one to whistle at the end of it. Guilty as charged.

Second half unleashes the actor in NTR and writer Koratala at the same time. Kudos to NTR and Koratala Siva for making such a content driven film putting all the calculations aside. To summarise, Janatha Garage is a hat-trick for NTR Jr and Koratala Siva!!
