Critic Reviews Rekka

  • Times of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-4/10
Even in the second half, we expect the flashback showing what haunts Siva to resonate with us, but even that disappoints, by being too lengthy. And this angle is brought back into the narrative set in the present in an unconvincing way. For an action film, Rekka hardly lands any punch.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Gautaman Bhaskaran Rating-5/10
While most of his six films this year were more or less rooted in realism, Rekka tends to slip into fantasy. A powerful actor who exhibits the right kind of emotions and in the right measure, Sethupathi seems to have been pushed into the highly popular genre,

Vijay Sethupathi may not make a flashy commercial hero, but when he is not sending villains flying through the air, he does give a pretty good performance. This is Vijay's sixth film this year and after a series of excellent films like Sethupathi, Dharmadurai and Aandavan Kattalai, director Rathinasiva's Rekka comes as a definite letdown.

  • India Today | Review By -Srivatsan Rating-2/10
Rekka has nothing new to offer and easily imprints itself on the list of fu** all Tamil films. In fact, Rekka makes Yaan, another despicable Tamil film, seem bearable in comparison. Rekka has music by D Imman, whose pulsating notes have delivered the needful, especially for a typical masala film.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Anupama Subramanian Rating-5/10
The film heavily relies on Vijay Sethupathi’s on-screen charisma and a natural performer that he is, indeed shoulders the responsibility to a great extent.  All right, the gravity defying stunts and the mass intro number for the hero is all acceptable, had the director concentrated on a solid script to project Sethupathi as a mass hero.

  • The Hindu | Review By -Vishal Menon
Rekka knows that a hero can’t hammer an SUV like crushing a can of coke, but he does. The heroine herself calls herself aloosu ponnu. As long as you feel the film isn’t taking itself too seriously, it’s a lot of fun.

  • Behindwoods | Review By -BW Review Rating-4/10
Overall the film is filled with goons going around in Tata Sumos , ‘Panchu Mathiri’ punches from Vijay Sethupathi, and templated romance sequences which seemed to let down audience expectations for something new.

  • Piping Hot Views | Review By -Anand
Confident performances from much of the cast accompanied by peppy background scores is just not enough to make up for the shoddy treatment provided to the subject. A lacklustre screenplay means that the movie fails to grow the much needed wings as it comes crashing down!

  • Cinema Glitz | Review By -Sajid Rating-5/10
Rathina Shiva seems like had a straight forward notion of making a mindless masala entertainer and he made sure of achieving that. And that was successful only because of VJS, if not this film wouldn’t have worked at all. Worth a watch for Vijay Sethupathi in mass avatar.

  • Studioflicks | Review By -Christopher Kanagaraj Rating-5/10
K S R – Vijay Sethupathi scenes have been crafted well. Fights and songs are on the negative side, especially climax and interval fight sequences. The film turns out to be a time pass entertainer due to the clever screenplay.
