Critic Reviews Kahaani 2

  • Times of India | Review By -Meena Iyer Rating-7/10
Vidya, shorn of make-up and glamour breezes through her dual role in autopilot mode. Arjun impresses as the cop hankering for a promotion and is believable as the husband. If you have an appetite for thrillers (albeit, with some flaws) give this one a try.

Despite its bumps, the film is seldom boring, but it’s hard not to mourn for what could have been. Kahaani 2 starts out with so much promise but peters out before the end. There’s a lot to like here, but consistency isn’t one of its strengths.

Kahaani 2 feels like a meal that begins with appetisers in a Michelin-star restaurant and ends with dessert in a dhaba. It’s unsatisfying. I still recommend that you see the film — for that killer first-half and for the brilliance of Balan. This might be a flawed franchise, but I’m looking forward to Kahaani 3.

  • Rediff | Review By -Raja Sen Rating-6/10
Set in Calcutta, Chandan Nagar and Kalimpong, Kahaani 2 has the bones of a fine thriller, and I enjoyed Tapan Basu's murky cinematography, shadowy and quick, leaving a lot of the actual action to our imagination.

  • NDTV | Review By -Saibal Chatterjee Rating-6/10
In its totality, Kahaani 2, is far from perfect. It is a taut, gripping and zippy drama punctuated with liberal doses of tension and intrigue, but it stumbles a touch on the home stretch.

Kahaani 2 movie review: This Vidya Balan film starts well but starts telegraphing its punches around interval. It becomes predictable and there can be nothing worse for a thriller.

  • The Hindu | Review By -Namrata Joshi Rating-6/10
Again, just as in Kahaani, things veer out of control in the second half. After setting things up well, Ghosh flounders in tying up all the loose ends. The finale gets sloppy and the overarching issue, handled sensitively in the first half, gets almost lost in the settling of scores and a race to punishment.

How do I put it better than a fellow passenger in my lift who went, "Picture baandhke rakhti hai," which is Hindi for "keeps you glued to your seat." Visually, both seem terrible situations to be in. In the context of this film, terrific!

  • India Today | Review By -Ananya Bhattacharya Rating-5/10
When a director like Sujoy Ghosh expects his audience to accept a guessable twist in Kahaani 2, it doesn't work. The flair of Ghosh in Kahaani is missing in Kahaani 2. The script doesn't give enough for a person to be happy about.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Sweta Kaushal Rating-8/10
The only let-down in Kahaani 2 is the climax. It is rather disappointing to see a high-tempo, fast-paced thriller suddenly taking the predictable-Bollywood-cliche dip. With Vidya’s stellar performance, Arjun’s strong support, Sujoy’s bold story and an engaging screenplay, Kahaani 2 is a must watch.

Kahaani 2 has a rock solid performance from Vidya Balan. But is that enough to quench the thirst of a thrill seeking audience ? The answer is as dark as the films premise.

But it's watchable because it holds your attention throughout and keeps you hopeful about an unannounced turn of events that may spring out of thin air any moment. Sadly, it doesn't.

  • Deccan Chronicle | Review By -Rohit Bhatnagar Rating-5/10
All in all, Kahaani 2 is definitely below expectations, and will only excite you if you’re a Vidya Balan fan, or if you watch it as a standalone mystery, unlike the nail biting prequel, Kahaani.

Some of the twists in the second half may seem predictable, but it’s buoyed by some fantastic acting performances. Also, watch out for director Ghosh’s finesse in bringing out the middle class milieu of West Bengal.

KAHAANI 2: DURGA RANI SINGH comes across as a dark thriller that addresses a sensitive subject backed with fantastic performances. At the Box Office, the movie will be appreciated on the account of its engaging narrative. Highly Recommended.
