Critic Reviews Bairavaa

  • Times of India | Review By -M Suganth Rating-5/10
A masala movie that has scope for mass moments, Bairavaa struggles with tone and pace and fails to do justice to its star. The film’s writer and director, Bharathan, dresses up his average guy versus powerful individual story as an issue-based film, but instead of telling this story in swift strokes, he narrates it in leisurely fashion, robbing the film of energy, which is crucial for a mass hero film.

  • Indian Express | Review By -Manoj Kumar R Rating-4/10
It is a typical Vijay film, where you can predict what happens next in the film 10 minutes before it actually unfolds on the screen. But, we know what we sign up for when we buy a ticket to watch a Vijay film.

Bairavaa is what happens when someone tosses in a bunch of must-have mass-movie ingredients into a mixie and forgets to add spice and seasoning.

  • Hindustan Times | Review By -Gautaman Bhaskaran Rating-2/10
Sadly, Vijay is turned into a mere showman – a clever ploy to get his fans into the theatres, and here again he has hardly anything original to offer. Bairavaa is no exception, and will not appeal to anyone other than a Vijay fan.

  • Manorama | Review By -Nelson K Paul Rating-4/10
Bairavaa's script disappoints. The writing offers nothing exciting for the audience and the hero's sermons are quite laughable. Bairavaa is just another run-of-the mill Vijay film which will only be celebrated by Ilayathalapathy's die hard fans.

  • Rediff | Review By -S Saraswathi Rating-4/10
The film is designed to cater to Vijay’s fans and his political aspirations and the actor uses every opportunity to dole out strong social messages. Bairavaa is strictly for his fans.

All other characters in the film are merely functional. A major letdown is Santhosh Narayanan’s music, except the theme number Varlaam Varlaam Bairavaa. The first half is good while post interval, it moves in a predictable manner. With such big budget and a star like Vijay, Bharathan could have packaged the film in a better fashion.

  • Bollywood Life | Review By -Sreeju Sudhakaran Rating-3/10
Bairavaa is nothing but a shameless hero-worshipping project, that is tailored to appease only his die hard fans. As a movie, it is a huge disappointment for being shockingly indifferent, and being a cruel bore at that.

After a tedious watch, one is bound to say, "Nee varamalaye iruthurkalam (sic) (We wished the film had not released)." At his peak, Vijay could have avoided Bairavaa. With the film in theatres, he has to pay the price.

  • The News Minute | Review By -Sowmya Rajendran
Bairavaa is a long, laborious and lazy film and the blame for that lies squarely with Bharathan. Nitrous oxide or laughing gas plays an important role in the film and if you want to remain entertained to the end, you may want to take your own cylinder with you.

  • Behindwoods | Review By -BW Review Rating-4/10
Few scenes looked over dramatized and could have been toned down. Sukumar has shown Vijay in dynamic angles and it has elevated his mass aspects adequately. The action scenes in particular were well choreographed.

  • Danie Britto | Review By -Danie Britto Rating-5/10
If the duration of the movie had been reduced by chopping off the songs, Motta Rajendar sequences and Thambi Ramaiah’s mind voices, the movie might have been gripping to some extent. Once watchable average commercial flick.

  • Filmibeat | Review By -Abhijhit Rating-5/10
Bairavaa is a movie that can be labelled as a festival entertainer. It is a sure treat for Vijay fans and for others it is a one-time watch that won't leave you disappointed.

Bharathan takes the old wine and packages in to a new bottle with a strong technical team. Unfortunately that makes Bairavaa a treat for the fans and a bore for the general audience, thus making it a one-time watch.
